Cozy Corner Cafe

 

Located inside the school cafeteria, the Charles R. Drew Cozy Corner Cafe offers a wonderful opportunity for our students to gain hands-on experience with food preparation while learning to generalize and transfer skills from school to the real world of work. Our menu, which is based on the USDA Smart Snacks in School Standards, offers a weekly array of deliciously-made, nutritious entrees, such as:

The Kitchen/Foods Work Skills class serves as the introduction to the study of the food service industry. Students who enjoy working with food and are willing to study and practice the techniques of Culinary Arts will have a greater chance at obtaining employment upon completion. All aspects of the industry and potential careers, equipment use and upkeep, food preparation and service, food storage, ordering and work simplification are covered in this program. Students will receive practical and theoretical experiences so that they work toward competence in each area. The mission of the Kitchen/Foods Work Skills Program is to develop students' competencies and abilities to practice effectively in an entry-level position as a cook, kitchen assistant, or food service management trainee with an emphasis on lifelong continuation of learning.
