PROGRAMS

Preparing young adults today
for their world tomorrow

The students of Charles R. Drew learn in a non-traditional classroom setting that promotes independent living and employability skills.  All students are individually assessed at the Transition Center and instruction is delivered through a unique, simulated work and living environment.  A Person Centered Plan (PCP) emerges into a transition plan that is aligned with the student’s career pathway, daily schedule, and Educational Development Plan (EDP).  Many of the transition students are able to successfully transfer acquired skills into the real world of work environments. Transition students are currently placed within community businesses in Metro Detroit in various departments at: Karmanos, Veterans Hospital, T.J. Maxx, Walmart, and Chili's Restaurant.  In addition, we have a student-operated kitchen and horticulture site that is aggressively growing through untapped student skills.  For additional support, on-site counseling and related-agency services are made available to students and parents daily.

Upon completion of the program at Charles R. Drew Transition Center, students will earn a certificate of completion.
