Green for Life

 

The "Green for Life"  was established in 2012 here at the Charles R. Drew Transition Center as a part of the DPS  "Go Green"  initiative. Since its inception, the "Green for Life"  team's tasks and activities have grown tremendously. Some of the activities have included:

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

    • Recycle Program-Paper, Bottles, Cardboard and Cans

    • Survey of appliances school-wide

    • "Bee Green Assembly to kick off the recycling program for the school year

    • Participation in the "Recycle Bowl", a national recycling competition

    • Teams of Students Energy Monitors - Water Usage

    • Energy Saving - Powering down for all School breaks/holidays

    • Parent Workshops pertaining to ways to save/conserve energy

    • Constant reinforcement of the practice "Reduce, Reuse and Recycle" for our special-needs population

    • Gardens - Works in collaboration with the Charles R. Drew Transition Center Farm Initiative, where the vegetables grown here at Charles R. Drew are served in both the cafeteria and Daily Living classrooms

    • As of April 2014, we are a Michigan Green School!
