Real-World Experiences for Students with Special Needs

Twice a month, a First Independence Bank representative visits the Charles R. Drew Transition Center and works with our young adults, who are trained to be bank tellers for the school. They organize a school branch, where the tellers are authorized to perform actual deposit transactions. Our young adults are able to deposit money in their savings accounts and learn the value of saving their money.

Objectives

  • Identify steps and choices in opening a bank account.

  • Fill out a deposit slip, record the deposit, and calculate the new balance.

  • Identify advantages of a savings account.

  • Recognize/read/write words related to banking.

  • Develop/increase survival skills.
